Lorna & Maryellen Gibson

Lorna & Maryellen Gibson – Lorna and Bill Gibson, and their daughter Maryellen, farm near the Town of Mirror in east central Alberta.  They currently raise 200 Dorset/East Friesen ewes and 500 lambs per year.  The operation is largely grass based with early season ewes lambing in a barn and later season ewes lambing on pasture.  Lorna also works as a biologist for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in the area of food safety and quality at the Lacombe Agricultural Research Station.

Maryellen grew up raising sheep with her mother and father, and was also involved in sheep 4H.  In addition to having skills in general flock management, growing up with computers has given Maryellen strong computer skills to troubleshoot and work through software and equipment set-up issues.  The Gibsons began working with RF ID systems in fall 2008.
